About Alpha phi alpha fraternity, inc.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Alpha) was founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University as the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity for African American men. Our visionary founders known as the seven Jewels recognized the need for a strong bond of brotherhood among African descendants in this country. The Jewels were the catalysts for an organization that is now international in stature and includes thousands of chapters at both the collegiate and alumni level.
The aims of the fraternity are scholarship, manly deeds and love for all mankind. Notable national programs include: A Voteless People is a Hopeless People; Go to High School, Go to College and Project Alpha.
Alpha men have affected nearly every facet of mankind and Alpha has long stood at the forefront of the African American community’s fight for civil rights through leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., W.E.B. DuBois, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Edward Brooke, Thurgood Marshall, Andrew Young, William Gray, Paul Robeson, and many others.
